Once you know your battery bank Amp-hour rating, and its Voltage now you can choose your Wind Generator for Battery Charging. Wind turbine operating voltage must match the battery bank voltage. Your battery voltage will either be 12 VDC, 24 VDC, or 48 VDC.
The larger the Power rating of the system, the more advantageous to go to larger system DC Voltages. Power = Volts * Amps, so if you go higher in Voltage (for the same power) you're pushing lower Amps. Lower the amps, the less resistance in your wires. Saves energy.
Typical Battery Charging wind generators listed by Power Rating are:
Model: Power Rating
AIR X Rated at 400 watts
WHISPER 100 Rated at 900 watts
WHISPER 200 Rated at 1,000 watts
WHISPER 500 Rated at 3,000 watts
ARE110 Rated at 2,500 watts
ARE442 Rated at 10,000 watts
Each of these Wind Generators can be used as a battery charger. Wind Generators often have grades such as LAND, MARINE, or INDUSTRIAL. This designation relates to the characteristics of your site. Is it near the water? Then MARINE grade is recommended.
Is your site at high altitudes, or exposed to extreme temperatures? Then INDUSTRIAL grade is recommended. The specific physical characteristics of your site are very important to understand, as factors from electrical substation location, to topography have critical impacts on required hardware, installation methods, and electrical interconnection.
